Isolate The Variable and Solve…
That’s the philosophy of the scientific method, which is a concept I apply to data analytics.
What does that mean?
Having a comprehensive overview of all the possible factors influencing an outcome.
In more detail, I isolate a variable in a control and test space with an A/B test setup, I then collect/record quantitative and qualitative observations and build attribution models. That’s just the basics of data analytics; beyond building data attribution models, creating conversion path outlines and understanding what particular patterns and trends entail and analyzing current industry/niche specific trends. After all that ground work has been completed, its about creating a hypothesis to test and re-evaluate continuously.
To put it simply, its comparing good data sets and looking for overall trends and patterns. The building of attribution models show what streams/channels are generating the most traffic or revenue. Which is orchestrated through using tools such as google analytics & tag manager or setting up other website traffic analytical tools to gather more data on where consumers are spending time. This gives you more insights as to where to invest.
For example, creating informational content regarding the products and how to select the right product for a consumers need. Then, having buttons or other internal links to for users to navigate towards these pages but and lead them down the sales funnel to either make an inquiry or to outright purchase the item on the spot. These are all important factors not just in the sales process, but even in SEO/SEM (website ranking) pages and overall domains where users spend more time signal the web page has value.
Overall, it’s something that takes time and practice. Data analytics is a skill that requires understanding how to collect, analyze, and attribute data. Data analytics is something that has to be practiced and adapted to with modern-day data collection techniques and old-school data analytics principles.
